On a great-grandmother's death

[Clara hears the news.]

Clara: I think we should get some flowers for [Grandma] Nanny to cheer her up.

Timothy: Yeah, actually, I think that’s a great idea.

C: If your eyes are open when you die, they stay open.

T: Yes, that’s true. Someone would usually close them for you afterwards, though. And Nana’s eyes were closed; she was asleep when she died.

C: When you die, you get very flat.

C: Dad, to make you feel better since Nana died, I’m going to put yellow tubers on the stairway posts. This is the day I do that.

T: Well thanks, that’s very thoughtful.
